Better to Look Like a Mutant?

benjamin 251

Here’s a passage that some use to criticize the Bible:

And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.  And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. – Matthew 5:28-29

Some actually believe that Christ is recommending self-mutilation in these verses!

Thinking About Sex is the Same As Doing It

young couple kissing in the gras 7

The Pharisees believed that they had kept every letter of the law—and prided themselves on what was on the outside.  As Christ continues to underscore how important the heart is, He takes aim at sexual sin—and says that it isn’t enough to simply abstain from committing adultery, but that you have to keep it out of your mind as well.

I have 7,000 Other Prophets

Bible

Until Death Do Us Part

Wedding Time

It’s interesting, isn’t it?  Every year there are couples that will stand before a group of people—Pastors, friends, family, etc.—and promise to love, honor, obey, and cherish each other come what may, until death, forsaking all others, and yet there are many in that same year who will decide to part ways.

We’re a culture that has it “our way”, and we hit the road at the first sign of trouble.

That’s one of the reasons that I’m very thankful for my wife.  Today will mark our 8th anniversary—it was eight years ago today that we pledged to love one another, and we meant it.

It hasn’t been easy, it hasn’t been all good news—but whether it’s been difficulties with kids, managing job loss, or the loss of loved ones we’ve been together through thick and thin.

Why the Number of Denominations is a Strength

church

I frequently check the site Pop Urls to see what’s popular around the Internet.  Frequently, the most popular threads or links on the social network site Reddit are in the atheism thread.  A few nights ago, I watched a YouTube video on Interpretations of the Bible, and I found it fascinating.

The main thrust of the argument was “Because there are multiple groups of Christians that interpret the Bible different ways, Christians shouldn’t tell me that I have an incorrect interpretation of the Bible because even they can’t get it straight.

An interesting, if flawed proposition.
